Justice postpones hearings on Gugu Liberato’s inheritance; twins confirm their parents’ relationship

The twin daughters of Gugu Liberato and Rose Miriam di Matteo, Marina and Sofia, took a stand in favor of their mother at the first hearing of the process that determines the legality of the couple’s stable union, on Monday (22).

Rose was also heard at the same hearing. Gugu’s eldest son, João Augusto, the presenter’s sister, Aparecida Liberato, and his nephew, André Liberato, chose to remain silent.

The hearings scheduled for this Tuesday (23) and Wednesday (24) at the 9th Family and Probate Court of the Central Court of São Paulo were postponed until next month, according to Rose’s lawyer, Nelson Wilians, so that all witnesses can be heard.

“We are not in a hurry. We just hope that justice is done with proof that the widow, Rose Miriam, lived in a stable relationship with Gugu Liberato”, said the lawyer.

The process runs in secrecy of Justice. But, according to Rose Miriam’s lawyer, there are elements that prove that she and Gugu maintained a public relationship.

“The twins Marina and Sofia have always been by their mother’s side in her search for recognition of a stable union in court. All elements prove that Rose and Gugu maintained a public, notorious, lasting, continuous relationship with the aim of starting a family. We reaffirm our belief that, every day, we are closer to seeing justice done”, said the lawyer, in a note.

Presenter Gugu Liberato died at age 60, in November 2019, the victim of an accident at home, in the United States. He fell and hit his head. In the will he left, Gugu did not recognize Rose Miriam as a stable partner and named his sister, Aparecida Liberato, as responsible for taking care of the estate.

Since then, a legal war has begun for the assets left by the presenter. If justice recognizes the stable union, Rose Miriam will be entitled to half of Gugu’s inheritance. The other 50% would be split between the couple’s three children.
