The Rio de Janeiro Court decided to maintain the sentence of former deputy Flordelis dos Santos de Souza to 50 years in prison for the death of her husband Anderson do Carmo, which occurred in 2019.
The Judiciary also ordered that Marzy Teixeira and André Luiz de Oliveira – adopted children of Flordelis – and Rayane dos Santos (her biological granddaughter) undergo a new trial regarding their participation in the death of pastor Anderson do Carmo.
In November 2022, the three had been cleared of involvement in the crime. According to the judges of the 2nd Criminal Chamber of Rio, however, the decision would have been contrary to the evidence in the case.
Flordelis was found guilty of the crimes of triple homicide, attempted double homicide, use of a false document and armed criminal association.
In the same session, the judges also upheld the conviction of Simone dos Santos Rodrigues, Flordelis' biological daughter, to 31 years and 4 months in prison for triple homicide, attempted double homicide and armed criminal association.
The decision also maintained the sentences of Carlos Ubiraci Francisco da Silva, affectionate son, and Adriano dos Santos Rodrigues, biological son of the former parliamentarian.
A CNN awaits the return of Flordelis' defense.
Remember the case
Pastor Anderson do Carmo, 42 years old, was shot dead in the early hours of June 16, 2019, in the garage of the house where he lived with his family in Pendotiba, in the city of Niterói, metropolitan region of Rio.
Flordelis and 10 other people were charged by the Public Ministry (MP) with the murder. At the time, the then parliamentarian was not requested to be arrested due to her parliamentary immunity, but she later lost her mandate.
According to the MP, of the pastor's 55 biological and adopted children, seven are involved in the crime, in addition to a granddaughter and two other people. In the document, the MP also mentions that, on several occasions, Flordelis tried to manipulate witnesses in the process investigating Anderson do Carmo's death.
