The Danish household goods company Jysk has reopened 71 of its stores in Ukraine after closing in February due to the Russian invasion, a company spokesman told Reuters.
“People need quilts, pillows, mattresses, towels, etc. As a result, we are slowly starting to reopen our stores,” said Rune Pederson.
A smaller version of IKEA, Jysk has 3,100 stores in 50 countries. The company stressed in March that it would withdraw entirely from Russia as a result of the invasion of Ukraine.
Prior to the invasion, Jysk had 86 stores in Ukraine. Some of them have been completely destroyed, while those in the Russian-occupied areas remain closed.
“We want to show the Ukrainians, our employees, and all the other Western companies that it is important for them to do business in the country, despite these uncertain moments,” said Jysk’s director for Ukraine.
