K. Ah. Karamanlis: The suffering of thousands of our fellow citizens demands that responsibilities be imposed and sanctions imposed

By order of the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis, an Investigation Committee was set up for the inadmissible situation on Attiki Odos.

It is recalled, according to the relevant announcement of the Ministry of Infrastructure & Transport, that the legal framework for assigning responsibilities to concessionaires when highways are closed, was introduced by the current government in 2020, to put an end to the phenomenon of creating problems in the road network and then no sanctions should be imposed on anyone.

Now, according to paragraph 3 of article 65 of law 4663/2020 (Government Gazette A ’30) it is provided that if the traffic is stopped in cases of adverse weather phenomena, sanctions are imposed on bodies responsible for the operation and / or maintenance of the said network, if their action or omission contributed to the disruption.

Thus, as provided by law, the Commission directly investigates the responsibilities of the Concessionaire ATTICA ROAD SA. but also of the ATTICA ROUTES Officer SA, in order to suggest to the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport the imposition of the severe sanctions provided.

These sanctions are independent of the compensation that the company will give to the drivers of the caged vehicles, as demanded by the Prime Minister Mr. Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

“The enormous suffering of thousands of our fellow citizens requires that responsibilities be imposed and sanctions be imposed. And this will happen,” said the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Mr. Costas Karamanlis.
