K. Ah. Karamanlis: We are designing the next generation projects for a traffic solution

The program of infrastructure projects, which changes the productive model of the country and the daily life of the citizens, was developed by the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport, Costas Karamanlis, at the Strategic Conference “Diligently Business”, organized by the Athens Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEA) and the Hellenic Institute for Entrepreneurship and Sustainable Development (IEA).

Mr. Karamanlis, first of all, pointed out that: “The Mitsotakis government, having to face multiple external crises one after the other, put the support of the society and the economy in the first priority. In other words, we apply in practice the principles that “They have characterized our party over time. The principles of equitable development and social care. This is what we did during the pandemic, this is what we are doing today with the international energy crisis.”

The three steps of the government in infrastructure

Mr. Karamanlis referred to the ambitious project program, amounting to 13 billion euros, the largest after the Olympic Games, prepared by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.

“In less than three years, we have managed to auction projects with a total budget of over 8 billion euros. This is something that has never been done in Greece before. . “euros”, he noted.

Mr. Karamanlis then referred to the three specific steps of the government for a new breath in the field of infrastructure.

“First, we reformed the institutional framework of public procurement. We solved the institutional heart attack caused by Law 4412 of the SYRIZA government”, he stressed and recalled the new reform law 4782, as well as the law on Standard Proposals.

“Secondly, we drafted for the first time a National Strategic Infrastructure Plan. Solving in practice a big and timeless problem, which in many periods characterized the big projects. the place is needed “, continued Mr. Karamanlis.

“Today, the projects we have designed and implemented aim to take advantage of our country’s strategic advantages. We invest in areas such as logistics. Such as combined transport, with our railway projects and ports that can become major freight centers. Such as the new generation of infrastructure projects, which will revitalize the market, change the image of the country and have the potential to transform its productive model.Projects that serve our new national strategy: Greece to develop into an infrastructure hub of the wider area “, he added.

“Mavroyalouros’s policy belongs to yesterday”

The third crucial step, as the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport pointed out, was that this government worked systematically to unblock a series of large, emblematic projects, while at the same time proceeding with the design maturity of new projects, utilizing every financial tool.

“Because we will never announce a project if we have not fully ensured these necessary conditions beforehand. This tactic of” Mavroyalouros “belongs to the past, it is a policy of yesterday, which in no way characterizes our government,” he said. Karamanlis.

He reminded in particular that he unblocked the Northern Section of the E65 and Aktio-Amvrakia, which is now at a very advanced stage and a large part of it will be delivered soon. That a solution was given to the long-suffering Patras-Pyrgos and the Northern Road Axis of Crete, where bulldozers will enter during the year. He reminded that Line 4 of the Athens Metro has started and that the three new stations of Line 3 will be delivered in the coming months. He also reminded that in the Thessaloniki Metro the progress of the works has exceeded 85%, but also the large program of flood protection water resources of 1.5 billion euros, Bralos-Amfissa, the Bypass of Chalkida and Psachna and the Alexandroupolis Regional.

The projects that will prevent traffic in Athens and Thessaloniki

“We must carefully plan the projects of the next generation. We all know that traffic in Athens and Thessaloniki is a very important problem,” said Mr. Karamanlis.

“A very important project, which will provide a solution to the traffic jam in Thessaloniki, is the flyover. But also here in Athens, we have prepared a comprehensive plan for the projects in Attica, so that the capital does not become an inaccessible city,” he continued. the Minister of Infrastructure and Transport.

The main pillars of this plan include the extension of Kymi Avenue, the extensions of Attiki Odos to Lavrio and Rafina and the Ilioupoli tunnel, as well as the new extensions of the Metro network. “Because they prevent it, they cure it,” he added.

“We have announced the largest package of railway projects ever made in Greece, amounting to 4.5 billion euros. At the same time, the program to upgrade the existing network of 1.2 billion euros is underway,” said Mr. Karamanlis.
