K. Frangogiannis: Greek-German coexistence on the path of development

The messages in the Greek-German economic relations are encouraging, as noted by the Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, Costas Frangogiannis, in his speech at a meeting of the German Chamber, which took place last night in Athens. Mr. Frangogiannis spoke about the coexistence of the two countries on the path of development through important trade agreements and investments.

At the meeting, during which the main conclusions of an IOBE study entitled “The imprint of German business in the Greek economy” were presented, the Undersecretary of State referred, among other things, to the 50 actions planned in the National Strategic Extroversion Plan 2022 for Germany. . Actions, which focus on attracting investment, boosting exports with the support of Greek participation in international exhibitions, organizing targeted events to improve product access to the German market. He also made special reference to the organization of the 6th Hellenic-German Economic Forum in collaboration with the Hellenic-German Chamber and the Central Union of German Chambers, the support of business missions and the information events on e-mobility, digitization, biotechnology start-ups.

Mr. Frangogiannis, giving the picture of our country’s economic relations with Germany, stressed that Germany occupies the second place in the list of destinations of Greek exports for 2021, with a percentage of 7.3% and the amount of trade to reach the 2.9 billion euros. At the same time, he pointed out that the performance of German investments in Greece is impressive, as the net inflows of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) from Germany reached 413 million euros in 2021, making Germany the third -in consecutive- country in terms of net inflows of FDI – after Switzerland and Cyprus – for the decade 2011-2021.

Finally, the Undersecretary of State for Foreign Affairs stressed that in the last 5 years many important investment projects have been implemented in the fields of tourism, Renewable Energy, information and communication technologies, food and beverages, transport, which confirms the confidence of German companies in Greece and its high level of human resources.
