The four main pillars on which the project “Astypalea: Smart and Sustainable Island” is based were presented by K. Frangogiannis, Deputy Minister for Economic Diplomacy and Extroversion, three that are already in progress and / or a potential one is planned, as he mentioned.
In particular, he pointed out that the first pillar concerns the gradual replacement of the existing fleet of vehicles on the island with electric ones, with generous support from Volkswagen for cars, but also from the State.
The second pillar provides for the replacement of existing oil generators, whenever Astypalea will be served by green energy.
The third concerns public transport to operate to order, taking us whenever we want where we want to go.
Finally, the fourth potential pillar is autonomous driving.
Regarding the implementation of the project, the Undersecretary said that it is in the second year, it will be completed in 2026 and pointed out that “none of this would have happened if there was not good coordination and support from many agencies.”
He further stressed that the real motivation behind all this effort was to improve the quality of people’s lives.
Finally, Costas Frangogiannis stated that “the vision of the man who pushed us to implement this program, is the vision of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.”
