The Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, paid a visit to the logistics company Diakinisis today, as he announced in a post on his personal Facebook account. Among other things, Mr. Hatzidakis noted that, when there is a government policy that encourages investment and entrepreneurship, while raising social protection, but also when at the same time there is a truly progressive spirit in companies and trade unions, Greece go ahead, the economy goes forward, workers come out victorious.
In detail, in his post, the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, states the following:
“We should not just talk. We should listen more. That’s why I visited another company to talk to the employees. Today, I went to Thriasio, to the big logistics company Diakinisis, which has about 450 employees. I talked to so many the managing director and general manager Antonis Kournoutos, as well as the president of the employees’ union Dimitris Sotiropoulos, the members of the union’s board of directors and many employees in their field of work.
Obviously, people have their problems. Surely, they would like – like all employees – higher wages. They also want measures to reconcile their work responsibilities with their family responsibilities. In fact, they knew what we recently legislated for the extension of paid parental leave for both parents by OAED, for the introduction of paternity leave for the first time and for the other regulations in relation to more flexible hours, so that they can see more their children, but the fact that they stand especially in the reconciliation of work and family is a message for all of us.
But what they told me and I have to say in my turn is that the salaries in this company are relatively higher than the average, that a productivity bonus has been agreed internally, that all employees have private insurance policies, that they do not jobs were reduced in the crisis and that new jobs are now being created in the company.
All this is not only due to the management of this company and other companies in which there are such positive developments. They are also due to the common denominators that have been found between employees and employers, despite their individual differences. When there is a government policy that encourages investment and entrepreneurship, while raising social protection, but also when at the same time there is a truly progressive spirit in companies and trade unions, Greece goes forward, the economy goes forward, the workers they come out victorious “.
