K. Hatzidakis: One year after the passage of the labor bill, the myths of Mr. Tsipras collapse in practice

“A year after the passage of the Labor Protection Law, workers have gained more power and rights and Mr. Tsipras’s myths are collapsing in practice!” points out the Minister of Labor and Social Affairs, Kostis Hatzidakis, in a post on his personal Facebook account.

In particular, the Minister of Labor notes: “Mr. Tsipras was accusing us of” rollers “when we brought the bill for the Protection of Labor. A year later, the reality denies it again!” and adds that working parents have obtained more parental leave and the possibility of four days of work, if this serves them and if they agree with their employers. “The Digital Work Card is the most essential guarantee for the respect of employees’ working hours. At the same time, the right of the employees to disconnect prevents the abuse of their working hours. With a series of strict regulations for violence and harassment at work, “The self-employed workers in the deliveries acquired more rights for their health and safety and the craftsmen saw their dismissal compensation equal to that of the employees”, adds Mr. Hatzidakis.

“The Law on Labor Protection, however, apart from all these important regulations, contributed to making Greece one of the 12 countries with full legal equality of the sexes and to the reduction of unemployment from 17.2% in the summer. 2019 to 12.5% in April 2022, in combination with the general policy of the government “, the Minister of Labor underlines, stressing, at the same time, that the increase of the minimum wage is equivalent to an additional salary per year for the employees who are paid with it.
