K. Mitsotakis for Metro: Line 2 is ready for auction possibly within 2022

The local and supra-local projects, the financing and the needs of the seven Municipalities of Western Athens were discussed in the meeting held under the Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis at the Maximos Palace, with the Mayors of the region. To date, the seven Municipalities have 14 project projects with a total budget of 80 million euros, while another 9 projects with a total budget of 25 million euros are expected to be included in the near future.

Regarding the extension of the Metro to Western Athens, as the Prime Minister stressed, the current estimate is that line 2 will be ready to be auctioned before the end of 2022. In addition to projects and funding issues, the meeting also discussed the issues of the staffing of the Municipalities with scientific staff and the Municipal Police, while the Mayors raised during their placements, their requests and the problems they face.

As Kyriakos Mitsotakis noted after the suggestions of the Mayors, apart from the large projects of supra-local character, in the next period every Municipality of Western Athens should have been identified with a project of renovation or creation of greenery. During his introductory speech, the Prime Minister pointed out:

“I am very glad to welcome you at the Maximos Palace after the, I think, substantial meeting we had in Peristeri a few months ago. The purpose of today’s discussion is to update the agenda of the issues that we had highlighted in this our first collaboration.

I understand that there is a good level of cooperation with the Secretariat of the Government, but also with the relevant Ministries. This makes me very happy as my interest in Western Athens is a given and I want it to be proven in practice.

We have launched a series of important interventions, perhaps the largest in scope concerns the extension of line 2 of the METRO to Ilion. And I estimate that the line will be ready to be auctioned possibly before the end of ’22

I am happy, because I see a series of inclusions of important projects in the “Tritsis Program” and I understand that there are other projects that are ready for inclusion.

And I realize that a number of important initiatives that we have discussed from time to time and have been pending for many years, I would say decades, from the stream of Eschatia to the undergrounding of high voltage cables, have found their way.

And, of course, I want to hear from you the progress that has been made on issues of release of resources for utilization, something that I think concerns all the Municipalities that have discussed specific cases of areas that can be turned into green and recreational areas.

And I would like to hear from you at what stage we are at, so that we can see how we can speed up the relevant processes even more.

And, of course, to look at the staffing issues, an issue that I know is bothering you, but I think we have launched some actions at the Ministry level on issues related to recruitment in the Local Government, especially to specialized staff which really necessary. And, finally, to see a little about the environmental and the Poikilo and the bike lanes that I understand are being launched in Haidari. I always want to emphasize quality of life and I think we can make significant progress in this area.

So, I stop here. The purpose is to hear again from all of you the progress we have made so far but especially where we still have issues. Let me also hear from our MPs, Miltiadis Varvitsiotis and Giannis Loverdos, if there are other issues that we need to highlight. “And of course the Ministry of Interior and the Minister of State are here to set the next milestones for our next meeting, for good.”

The meeting was attended by the Mayor of Egaleo Giannis Gikas, the Mayor of Agia Varvara Lambros Michos, the Mayor of Agioi Anargyroi-Kamatero Stavros Tsirbas, the Mayor of Peristeri Andreas Pahaturidis I, the Mayor of Petfarios V Zenetos.

We are discussing the issues of human resources very briefly, anyway. You know that the (announcement) “13K” has been raised, we have said that you will have temporary results in “13K” until May and I believe that we will give you the opportunity For final results of “13K” we will go to December. In December we will give you the opportunity to get the recruitment planning for 2022. Therefore, we will have finished and possibly because we will have done the recruitment planning “We will give you the opportunity with the final” 13K “to get 2023. So, you will have enough people, who will come, in this year”, noted the Minister of Interior Makis Voridis.

“As for the issue of emergency funding that we will support the Local Government, this emergency funding is a given. We have fortunately entered into a structured dialogue after the last meeting we had under your chairmanship, Mr. President, with KEDE and the Ministry of Finance. So, we see these issues with a plan and not in fragments: Extraordinary funding, one CAP already given, half for school boards, 128 million for municipalities a significant injection of liquidity. we will see what further support there will be “, said the Deputy Minister of Interior, responsible for Local Government issues Stelios Petsas.

The meeting was attended on behalf of the Government by the Minister of State Akis Skertsos, the Deputy Foreign Minister in charge of European Affairs and MP B2 Western Sector of Athens Miltiadis Varvitsiotis, the MP B2 West Sector of Athens and Giannos Synonos Lonos
