K. Mitsotakis: Greece unreservedly condemns the review actions

The National Security Council is meeting under the chairmanship of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

At the beginning of the meeting, the Prime Minister made the following statement:

Russia’s attack on Ukraine dramatically puts the world community in front of its responsibilities. Because in the Ukrainian crisis many are tested: The limits of International Law, the validity of the Treaties but also the very right of states to live freely. As many are threatened: from geopolitical stability in Europe to international energy balance.

From the beginning, Greece respects the territorial integrity, sovereignty and independence of all countries. It therefore unequivocally condemns revisionist actions that run counter to these values. And much more condemns the brutal violence from which, unfortunately, many innocent people will lose their lives.

That is why, as a member of the European Union and NATO, we are coordinating with our partners so that our reaction is not just common, but also in line with the unprecedented Russian provocation. And, of course, we always keep our eyes on our expatriates, especially in the area of ​​Mariupol.

The government adapts its policies to the new data as it is shaped. At the national level, energy efficiency has already been ensured and we are working on scenarios that will involve the greatest possible absorption of fluctuations in energy prices.

It is a problem, however, which is pan-European and that is why it requires a pan-European solution. And that could mean even European financial instruments to tackle energy prices, as long as they last.

And finally, I will say again that all these developments highlight even more the need for a substantial European strategic autonomy.

The world community has the opportunity to resist the power of arms and to challenge borders and international treaties. The culture and conquests of the 21st century must not allow the world to return to the conditions of violence of other times and to the armed solutions of transnational disputes. Our continent has suffered greatly from these perceptions. And the historical revisionism with the use of weapons must face the whole democratic planet.

And on this front the responsibility of governments, peoples, but also of the European family is now being judged. “After all, these will be the issues that we will have the opportunity to discuss today at the extraordinary Summit in Brussels.”
