The Minister of Digital Government, Kyriakos Pierrakakis, expressed the certainty that the financing of IT projects will not be affected by the war in Ukraine, during his speech at the 24th annual conference “Greek ICT Forum Infomobiltiy World”. The minister pointed out that “on a weekly basis there are too many auctions of major projects” and added that “the Bible of digital transformation is funded by many available resources. These resources are based on the Recovery Fund, it is also the new NSRF, therefore “These resources have been foreseen and will be utilized in the course for all the projects, which are constantly being auctioned. In fact, we have said that 2022 is the year of the big auctions of IT projects, so all the projects continue normally”. As he put it, “things are moving in such a direction, which allows us to say that the Recovery Fund and the Bible of digital transformation are fully workable and workable.”
He stated: “The ultimate goal is for the services, which will be produced by the projects that will be auctioned by the Recovery Fund, to be such as to serve the citizen and the business as much as possible. In this context, we look at the how the domestic IT market will be able to have the maximum possible multiplier at many levels, such as attracting human resources, reducing administrative burdens, but also the economy – where the impact of all these projects will be seen “.
Regarding the implementation times of the projects, the minister underlined that “given the planning that we do ourselves in the projects, we have seen the implementation times reduced, precisely because we avoid unnecessary stages, which were previously on the agenda”.
Regarding the coverage of the country with fiber optics, Mr. Pierrakakis underlined that “at the moment we have the plans of the providers, which if we say that we have 4.8 million ends from Fiber to the home, from them imagine that roughly We had planned the 2.8 million before Christmas, but I think we are slowly approaching the goal of full coverage; that is, we will be missing about 500,000 lines. 2027, so together with Ultra Fast Broadband, which covers 812 thousand lines, I think we can say that we are on a path where the whole country will be covered with optical fiber in the near future “.
Referring to mobile telephony, the minister explained that “the reason we did well is that the relevant investments have been made over the years, while in fixed telephony they are being made now. That is why we will do them as fast as possible. with all the necessary arrangements that will facilitate the investment in practice “.
In the meantime, Mr. Pierrakakis spoke about the possibility of financing 100% of the necessary strategy aimed at the digital transition of the country, saying that “in each ministry there is a complete record of what is missing and what is needed, while it exists for the first time in our country the ability to finance 100% of the necessary strategy, so that we can achieve this transition, which is why the strategy as it is currently implemented will continue, through small victories in small projects and will continue with big victories in the big projects that we are auctioning at the same time, all these together build the new digital state, which if you want is crystallized in the single digital portal of the public, in gov.gr which is the point where the citizens interact with the state from a thousand services and will interact for more and more “.
Concluding, the minister stressed that the goals of the ministry are to create those conditions that allow any idea to flourish. “We must create the best possible conditions for incubating ideas, because the needs of society are given and the state must be digitized to 100%. To be able to establish a state that will allow every good idea and every entrepreneur to find the way that suits him “.
