K. Skrekas: No vulnerable household will be left without electricity in the ‘heart of winter’

The measures taken by the government to alleviate households and businesses from the energy crisis and increases are the largest in value in the European Union, said, among others, the Minister of Energy and Environment, Costas Skrekas, in an interview today in ANT1 TV station. He added that Greece is the first country in the European Union, which from January will subsidize businesses for electricity bills. Mr. Skrekas explained that the average subsidy for households announced for January is lower than the one for December, but this is due to the fact that there has been a de-escalation in international wholesale energy prices.

Mr. Skrekas also noted that no vulnerable household will be left without electricity in the “heart of winter”. As he characteristically stated, the subsidy covers 90% of the increases for an average household with a social tariff, while in case of power outage due to unpaid bill, there is the five-digit number 15902 with which the reconnection for vulnerable households is done immediately.

As for the rest of the households, he stressed that the government’s goal is for the average charge on the electricity bill for a household not to exceed 15% after the support measures. Regarding households that do not belong to the beneficiaries of social tariffs, Mr. Skrekas said that PPC has a program for settlement with a 15% down payment, while private providers have similar programs.

Regarding the program for the withdrawal of electrical appliances, which was announced by the Prime Minister himself, Mr. Skrekas assured that all the necessary steps are being taken to implement it in the first half of 2022, while in the next period. the terms and criteria for participation in the program will be announced.
