K. Skrekas: Subsidies in electricity will remain if price increases continue

The Minister of Environment and Energy, Costas Skrekas, spoke to SKAI about the increases in energy prices and subsidies, according to skai.gr.

The electricity subsidy runs until the end of December. However, as Mr. Skrekas said, if the explosive increases in prices continue in the next period, the aid will remain, especially for the most vulnerable.

Europe says some criteria must be met to help families who really need it. “We are looking at what those criteria are,” he said.

The minister explained that the big problem of the increase in the price of electricity comes from the explosive increases in the price of gas. “The price of gas has risen 4 and 5 times since last year.”

So far, a 15% discount has been given to households for natural gas, but as Mr. Skrekas said, this is not enough, so it will increase. The exact number of the discount will be announced in the coming days.

He stressed that the discount will continue for the first quarter of the new year.

Also, in the coming days, a five-digit energy solidarity emergency number will be announced, where disadvantaged citizens will be able to speak to manage the amount they are required to pay and not have their electricity cut off.
