K. Skrekas: We are considering supporting the main residence in the first place

We are trying to cover most of the increase in electricity, Minister of Environment and Energy Costas Skrekas told SKAI. The goal is to absorb 80% of the burden on the cost of electricity, so that an average household does not see more than 15 – 20% maximum increases, clarified Costas Skrekas.

For gas, he noted that the bills that will come from now on and relate to clearing bills and consumption November – December. For October and November the discount is 15% and from December it will be 40%.

“There are all these criteria to protect those who are really in need with very low incomes,” he said. “We have created a five-digit emergency number in 15902 to cover the cost of reconnection and part of the debts.”

The telephone line is open from Monday to Friday, from 8 am to 8 pm. It can be addressed to households that are really unable to pay their electricity bills and request a reconnection of their supply, the minister pointed out.

He also noted that it is a fact that we accept suggestions, and we consider scenarios, because the resources (…) are limited to support the main house in the first place so that the households do not stay frozen during the winter.

Costas Skrekas also clarified that “any support to companies must first go through the European Competition Commission to get approval because otherwise it is illegal.” “Our goal is to support all businesses, whether low, medium or high voltage,” he said.

The minister clarified that “in the last few days we have de-escalation in gas prices and this brings de-escalation in energy prices. Of course we should not rush, the volatility in international energy markets is very high, we hope that this will continue and we will finally have “A de-escalation, but that may not happen and energy prices may remain high at least until Easter. We could even have another rise in gas prices that would sweep away electricity prices.”
