K. Skrekas: We are discussing with Egypt the possibility of building a submarine gas pipeline

With the presence of Greece, the work of the 6th Ministerial Meeting of the countries participating in the SE Mediterranean Forum on Natural Gas began this morning in Cairo.

At the same time, he stressed that today Greece will further strengthen its cooperation with Egypt by signing a bilateral memorandum on “exploring the possibility of building a direct submarine natural pipeline Egypt – Greece.”

Mr. Skrekas explained that with his Egyptian counterpart, Tarek El Mola, a “joint memorandum of cooperation with Egypt will be signed, which will include issues of cooperation related to the investigation of the possibility of building a direct submarine gas pipeline, Egypt – Greece The possibility of transporting liquefied natural gas from Egypt to Greece, and of course the possibility of cooperating in research and development of natural gas fields. which has started, has grown and is already bearing fruit “.

As the minister pointed out, “this is a continuation of the meetings between Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi. We came to Egypt a few months ago. And so today – after the previous meeting we had with my counterpart, the Minister of Electricity to explore the possibility of building an underwater electricity interconnection Egypt – Greece – to a next stage, in next phase, and we are discussing the possibility of direct cooperation between Greece and Egypt in the field of natural gas “.
