Kalashnikov creates an assault rifle with a neural network that helps to aim and shoot

The chief designer of the Kalashnikov concern, Sergei Urzhumtsev, in an interview with RIA Novosti, announced the development of a new weapon that will use a neural network. The enterprise has already created separate elements of the system and even demonstrated it to the Russian Defense Minister as part of a closed display at the Army-2021 forum.

The new shooting complex will be equipped with elements of artificial intelligence that will automate the processes of identification, aiming and target tracking, as well as firing a shot. To bring the smart weapon project to serial production, the company intends to open a research and development base. Kalashnikov plans to apply to the Ministry of Defense with this proposal.

Sergei Urzhumtsev said that such a weapon will increase the rate of destruction of targets, but for this it is necessary to integrate various optical and electronic devices into a single system with the weapon. Such an intelligent system will choose the optimal time for the shot itself, based on various conditions and factors at the moment. Simply put, the shooter will only need permission to shoot, and smart algorithms will take over the rest. The neural network will be useful in conditions when a person is physically unable to see targets, for example, in bad weather or at night.
