The Ukrainian winners in this year’s song contest Eurovision they started a fundraiser today lasting 24 hours for the soldiers who defended themselves at the besieged Azovstal factory as the country marked 31 years of independence and six months of war.
The complex Kalush Orchestra, through the video posted on Instagram, calls on every Ukrainian, within the next 24 hours, to become a donor by offering 24 hryvnias (65 minutes) for those who fought on the front lines at the Azovstal factory in Mariupol.
“We are opening donations for his wounded fighters Azovstal“, says the band.
“This money will help our heroes become healthy and strong again,” the band adds in a caption translated into English, also congratulating them Ukrainians for Independence Day according to the Athens News Agency.
Mariupol was under siege for months. Fighters from the Azov Battalion, a national guard unit, fought for months from shelters and tunnels under the steel plant before many of them surrendered in May.
The group Kalush Orchestra won the first Eurovision prize with the song “Stefania” in the same month, while later they raised $900,000 for the Ukrainian military by selling their trophy.
