Kamala addresses “opportunity economy”, voting rights and Trump in new interview

The vice president and Democratic candidate for President of the United States, Kamala Harris, conducted an interview with journalist Roland Martin and discussed a series of issues, including his proposal for an “opportunity economy”, harsh criticism of the former president and Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump and how his campaign is handling his speeches to black voters.

“See the context of how he really thinks and talks about black people in America,” Kamala told Martin. “And you and I have talked about this before – when he was a landlord, he didn’t rent to black families. He was sued for it. When he took out a full-page ad in the New York Times against those five black and Latino teenagers in Central Park who were innocent, saying they should be executed. When you look at the lies directed against the first black president of the United States,” he added.

“And now you look at black immigrants, legal immigrants, in Springfield, Ohio, and he gets into a debate and says they’re eating pets. Let’s go. This man is dangerous,” he declared.

Kamala Harris began to question Trump’s fitness for the presidential role and accused his team of protecting him, after refusing a second debate or refusing to give an interview to the program 60 Minutes.

“Every president of the last half century has made a [debate]anyone running for President. Everyone did it except Donald Trump. He won’t debate me again. I published my medical records, he doesn’t release his medical records. And you have to ask: why is his team doing this? And it may be because they think he’s just not ready, and he’s inadequate and unstable, and he shouldn’t have this level of transparency with the American people. There is a real choice in this election,” he continued.

The vice president was also asked about the battleground race in North Carolina, where she sat for the interview, and the potential threats to voting rights, especially for black Americans.

“Well, so you know, I think we should all, whoever is in North Carolina watching this, Josh Stein running for governor, it’s going to be very important – pay attention to these state House races, because if they can shift the balance in state House, then they will be able to promote more voting rights protections,” he responded.

The Democratic candidate also criticized attempts to restrict voting expansions that took place during the pandemic.
