Kamala Harris Calls Yulia Navalny After Prisoner Swap – Expresses ‘Her Support’

Kamala Harris, the US vice president, called Yulia Navalny, the widow of Kremlin dissident Alexei Navalny, on Thursday after a major prisoner swap between Russia and the West. Harris expressed her “support” and praised the “contribution to the struggle for a democratic Russia” of Alexei Navalny and his wife, Kira Jarmis, Yulia Navalnaya’s spokeswoman, told Platform X. The White House confirmed on Thursday that it had tried to free the dissident, who died in February in prison in Russia, as Alexei Navalny’s team had earlier confirmed. The dissident died at the age of 47 under undisclosed circumstances on February 16, 2024, following increasingly grueling detention conditions.
