The Los Angeles home of Vice President Kamala Harris is in the area threatened by the fire that is raging in California and was placed under an evacuation order this Wednesday (8), as thousands of people left because of the fire.
“Last night, the vice president’s Los Angeles neighborhood was placed under an evacuation order. No one was home at the time…She and the Second Gentleman are praying for the safety of their fellow Californians, the heroic first responders and the Secret Service team,” Harris spokesman Ernesto Apreza said in a statement posted on social media .
Harris and second gentleman Doug Emhoff maintain a home in the Brentwood neighborhood and have returned often over the past four years. They will likely return to Los Angeles after leaving Washington. At the moment, Biden’s vice-president is in Washington.
Apreza added: “The Vice President and President continue to closely monitor the fires, remain in contact with state and local authorities, and have offered any federal assistance that is needed to help respond to and recover from this terrible disaster.”
There is usually a U.S. Secret Service team at Harris’s California home, but it would be relatively easy to secure and leave the home, according to the former Secret Service agent and collaborator. CNN Jonathan Wackrow.
The Secret Service, he said, “can secure the home and leave the location quickly and I know they have specific plans for that (natural disasters and related cases) and for everyone who is protected by the agency.”
THE CNN contacted the Secret Service for comment.
