The president of Ipsos, a market research and consultancy in the United States, Clifford Young, said in an interview with the WW program this Tuesday (23) that the current American vice president, Kamala Harris, is a figure still unknown to Republican voters.
Despite Harris’s reasonably high recognition, Young claims that “nobody knows anything in detail about her.”
According to the expert, Harris’ situation differs significantly from that of Hillary Clinton during the 2016 elections.
“She [Hillary Clinton] had a great history over many years, had a very close relationship with her husband, was very involved in politics over decades,’ Young explained.
Race to define image
Young noted that there is currently a “huge race” to define Kamala Harris’s image. On one side, the vice president herself is trying to establish her political identity. On the other, Republicans are trying to shape a narrative that is more favorable to them.
Harris’ lack of a solid image contrasts with Republican voters’ perception of Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Clinton, with decades of political experience and a strong association with her husband, former President Bill Clinton, already had a well-established — if often negative — image among the Republican base.
This situation presents both challenges and opportunities for Kamala Harris. The vice president has the chance to shape her own narrative, but she also faces the risk of having her image defined by her political opponents.
As the 2024 election approaches, shaping Harris’s public image will likely become a crucial factor in the political strategy of both Democrats and Republicans.
