“Kamala” or “Kamala”? The answer with a video

There are not a few – inside and outside the United States – who mispronounce Vice President Harris’ name. This difficulty is due to the grammatical and phonological preference of the language to “lower the tone” on the ending, making the pronunciation of the name “Kamala” easier. However, the correct pronunciation is ‘Kamala’. Kamala Harris herself has noticed this problem, and in order to help with the correct pronunciation of her name, she created a video when she ran for the Senate in California. In the video, she had young children explain how to pronounce her name: “Kamala.” Since being elected as a senator, Kamala Harris’ rise to the United States political scene has been meteoric. With this video, she not only managed to correct the pronunciation of her name, but also to communicate in a more personal and accessible way with her constituents.
