Vice President Kamala Harris said former President Donald Trump’s remark on Wednesday that he would protect women whether they “like it or not” is “offensive to everyone.”
While speaking to reporters in the swing state of Wisconsin, this Thursday (31), the Democratic Party candidate took the opportunity to quote the comment her Republican opponent made at a rally in the same location.
“In fact, I think it’s very offensive to women in terms of not understanding their authority, their right and their ability to make decisions about their own lives, including their own bodies,” Kamala said, calling the line “the most recent series of revelations by the former president about what he thinks about women and their interests.”
“By the way, I think it’s offensive to everyone,” added the vice president, when responding to a reporter’s question, asked later, about the subject.
The Democrat recalled her comments about abortion, alluding to the states that have approved legal restrictions on reproductive rights since the annulment of Roe v. Wade. Wade.
What Trump said: The former president told rally attendees on Wednesday that his advisers asked him not to say that (he) wants to protect women.
“I want to protect the women of our country. I want to protect the women who serve. ‘Please don’t say that.’ Why? They said, ‘We think it’s — we think it’s very inappropriate,’” Trump said.
“I’m going to do this whether women like it or not. I have to protect them. I will protect them from arriving immigrants. I will protect them from foreign countries with missiles and many other things,” he added.
