US Vice President Kamala Harris indirectly criticized former President Donald Trump on Sunday (18), suggesting her opponent in the November 5 election was a “coward” whose policies focused on putting down rivals.
The remarks came during a campaign event as she toured the crucial swing state of Pennsylvania with her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, before heading to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, which begins on Monday (19).
She did not directly name Trump, who at a rally Saturday in Pennsylvania referred to Harris as a “radical” and a “lunatic.”
“This campaign is about recognizing that, frankly, in recent years, there has been a kind of perversion that, I think, suggests that the measure of a leader’s strength is based on who you defeat, when what we know is that the true measure of a leader’s strength is based on who you lift up,” Kamala said amid cheers from supporters.
“Anyone who cares about bringing others down is a coward,” Biden’s vice president added.
Opinion polls have shown Kamala Harris bringing renewed energy to the campaign and closing the gap with former President Trump both nationally and in many of the eight highly competitive states, including Pennsylvania, that will play a decisive role in choosing Democratic President Joe Biden’s successor.
