Harris campaign officials gave a preview of what they expect to hear from President Joe Biden’s remarks at the Democratic National Convention on Monday night (19), praising his record as president and his decision to step away from the presidential race.
At a news conference ahead of the first night of the convention, Harris’ campaign said it hopes Democrats in attendance will reflect positively on her record over the past four years and celebrate the Democratic ticket being handed to Vice President Kamala Harris.
“I think you’re going to see a very proud president who, throughout his entire career, has always made sure he’s thinking about the people,” said Harris campaign co-manager Cedric Richmond.
Sen. Chris Coons, a close Biden ally, said his speech tonight would not end his involvement in the work to elect the vice president, noting that he hopes to see Biden campaign in Pennsylvania before Election Day.
“No one loves campaigning like Joe Biden. You’ll see him happily campaigning in Pennsylvania and across the country and focusing on the work that still needs to be done, both in the remaining five months and beyond,” he said.
Convention chairman Minyon Moore said Biden’s speech would give Democrats a chance to “celebrate” him.
“Let’s celebrate him, celebrate all the achievements he gave us,” she said.
Moore also spoke about Kamala’s relationship with former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who will also speak tonight, saying Harris and Clinton are in close contact with each other.
“She’s been an incredible partner to Vice President Harris. They have a great friendship,” Moore said.
