Rapper Kanye West announced on Thursday (27) the release of a new album through his Instagram page. The new work was called “Donda 2”, in what appears to be a continuation of the album he released in 2021, called “Donda“.
The release is scheduled for February 22, however, the date caused suspicion on the internet – the first volume of “Donda” took months to be released and had the premiere date changed several times. “’Donda 2′ will be delayed by 200 days or a year at least,” said one user on Twitter.
The title is a tribute to the artist’s mother, Donda West, who died in 2007. Her mother’s death, West revealed in several interviews, marked his life and caused him a deep mourning. In “Donda”, he recovers memories that lived together and brings religious references.
Ye’s new album, as the rapper prefers to be called, will have Future as executive producer.
Steven Victor, who worked with West at GOOD Music and is a former executive vice president of A&R’s Def Jam label, said “Donda 2” is a “masterpiece” in an interview with Complex.
Kanye West is frequently embroiled in controversy, and even ran for president of the United States in 2020. More recently, he spoke out against the release of a documentary about his life, “Jeen-Yuhs”, which premiered at the Film Festival in Sundance.
On his Instagram, he claimed to have the right to see the final cut of the intimate work, which covers 20 years of his life, before the general release. “I need to get the final cut and approval on this documentary before release. Open the editing room immediately so I can take care of my own image.”
