Royal expert Katie Nicholl revealed this in the Channel 5 documentary Secrets of the Royal Dressmakers: «Behind the scenes, tears were shed in the Palace because Kate had gone to great lengths to keep the wedding dress secret and instead… ». Instead, a few months before the wedding it was learned that it was one creation by Sarah Burton, designer of the Alexander McQueen maison. The Times was the first to publish the details in advance, revealing, “A source said the dress will be a combination of Kate Middleton’s design ideas and Burton’s deep knowledge and understanding of couture.” For the future Duchess it was a blow to the heart. Kate, Nicholl continues “She had hoped to keep Burton’s name in the shadows until the wedding”. Instead the Times he had found out and blasted it all out.
