Kathlen case: Death of a young pregnant woman shot in Rio de Janeiro turns 1 year old

the young woman’s death Kathlen Romeo , 24 years old, turned one year old this Wednesday (8). The family celebrated, that night, a mass in memory of the young woman in Méier, North Zone of Rio de Janeiro .

Kathlen was killed by a rifle shot in the chest during a Military Police operation in Complexo do Lins, in the North Zone of Rio. She was four months pregnant.

At the mass, the young woman’s father, Luciano Gonçalves, said that he is still waiting for justice for his daughter and said that the conclusion of the case is being delayed.

“We are still in complete despair because of the negligence of the public authorities. Considering that we already have all the supporting elements of who it was and how they did it. And despite all this, this slowness of justice in punishing and penalizing the State and bad police, is very difficult for us”, highlighted Luciano.

Last month, the Court of Justice of the State of Rio (TJRJ) held the first hearing of the case. A new hearing is scheduled for June 27, as one of the defendants’ defense witnesses did not appear due to medical reasons.

During the hearing, Kathelen’s grandmother, who was with her at the time of the shooting, said that one of the police officers did not let her accompany her granddaughter on the way to the hospital. She would have been taken away in a van.

A solemn session is scheduled for Friday (10th) at the City Hall in honor of the young woman. For Saturday (11), friends and family promote an act in the region where Kathlen was killed.
