KEDE – SYRIZA meeting on the increases in the raw materials of the projects

With the heads of Infrastructure – Transport and Interior of K.O. of SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance, met today in Parliament, the presidency of the Central Union of Greek Municipalities (KEDE). According to the relevant announcement of KEDE, the meeting was initiated by the main opposition party and its object was the difficulties in the implementation of important infrastructure projects of the Local Government, due to the increase of raw material prices and the risk of loss of funding. The president of KEDE, Dimitris Papastergiou, stressed that due to the large increase in prices of some materials, in many projects there are delays and reluctance to sign contracts. the forfeiture of guarantees, than to perform a loss-making project from the outset. Mr. Papastergiou stated that in this matter KEDE in a letter asked the government to take immediate measures, emphasizing that “the announcements of the Ministry of Infrastructure that followed after our intervention are moving on the right basis, as long as these measures are legislated soon and even sooner to find the necessary funds in order to cover the revised upward costs “. According to the announcement of KEDE, the SYRIZA-Political Alliance delegation stressed that an initiative has already been taken to solve the problem quickly and with decisive steps because the times are pressing and the delays in the implementation of the projects lead to not absorbing resources and to stop growth completely. “We hope for your help so that the meeting of the Production and Trade Committee can take place quickly and we can try to raise the issue together. And if the financial staff of the government does not understand, to assist and help, so that the pouch holders can open “, stressed Nikos Pappas, Head of Infrastructure and Transport – MP B3 of the Southern Sector of Athens.

The SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance delegation, after emphasizing the positive contribution of KEDE in highlighting the situation, characterized the measures taken so far by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport as “delayed and incomplete”, requesting:

Take substantial and adequate measures to restart public works.

To ensure the projects expected by the local communities, as well as the viability of the small and medium enterprises of the sector and the jobs in them.

Redirect the resources of the Recovery Fund, by adopting the recommendation of the Commission for the inclusion of mature projects in the Fund.

To support the municipalities as a whole.
