Keepass2Android 1.09a-r3

Keepass2Android Is an open source password manager for Android. It allows you to read and edit .kdbx files – the database format of the popular KeePass 2.x Password Safe program for Windows and other computer operating systems.

The user interface is based on Keepassdroid (by Brian Pellin), ported from Java to Mono for Android. The internal algorithms use the original KeePass file access libraries to ensure maximum compatibility with the original file format.

Main features of the application

  • read / write .kdbx files (KeePass 2.x)
  • integration with almost any Android browser (see below)
  • Quick Unlock: Unlock the base by entering the entire password, re-open it by entering just a few characters (see below)
  • Access to files in cloud storage (Dropbox, Google Drive, SkyDrive, FTP, WebDAV). Use Keepass2Android Offline if you don’t need this feature.
  • Built-in software keyboard: Switch to this keyboard to enter data for authorization. This will protect you from clipboard password eavesdroppers (see below)
  • support for editing records, including additional string fields, file attachments, tags, etc.
  • search dialog with all the features found in KeePass 2.x.

Integration with the browser. If you need to find a password for a web page, go to Menu / Share… and select Keepass2Android. This

  • will show a database load / unlock screen if no database is loaded or unlocked
  • will open the Search Results screen displaying all records for the current URL
  • will directly offer to copy Username / Password if only one entry matches the current URL

Quick Unlock. You must protect the Password Database with a strong (i.e. random and LONG) password that includes upper and lower case letters, numbers and special characters. Entering such a password each time on a mobile phone to unlock the database is time consuming and error prone. Solution from KP2A – Quick Unlock:

  • Use a strong password for the database
  • Download the database and enter a strong password once. Turn on QuickUnlock.
  • The application is blocked after the time specified in the settings
  • If you want to reopen your database, you can enter a few characters (by default, the last 3 characters of your password) for easy and quick unlocking!
  • If an incorrect QuickUnlock key is entered, the base will be locked and you will need to re-enter the entire password.

Keepass2Android keyboard. A German research team has demonstrated that most password managers using the clipboard to transfer credentials are insecure[1]: Each application on your phone can subscribe to the clipboard change event, and thus receive notifications when your passwords are copied from the password manager to the clipboard. To defend against such an attack, you should use the Keepass2Android keyboard: When you select an entry, a notification will appear in the notification panel. This notification will make it easy to switch to the KP2A keyboard. It’s a simple keyboard with an important key: tap on the Keepass2Android symbol to “enter” your credentials. Click on the keyboard shortcut to switch back to your favorite keyboard.
