At least 31 people were killed Monday in episodic demonstrations throughout Kenya, according to a new report announced today by the National Human Rights Committee (KNCHR). The committee also said that 107 people were injured and 532 arrested. “Knchr strongly condemns all human rights violations and calls for responsibility to the perpetrators” wherever they come from, including police. A spokesman for the UNHCR did not hide its strong concern, stressing, inter alia, that “under international law, law enforcement forces should not resort to deadly violence (…) unless it is absolutely necessary for protection”.
