The Blockchain Association of Kenya (BAK) has asked the Nigerian government to release Binance executives who have been in custody for more than three weeks.

According to local media reports, the BAK administration met with representatives of the Nigerian High Commission and submitted a petition for the release of senior Binance managers.

“The Kenya Blockchain Association is deeply concerned about the arrest of prominent Binance representatives and members of our association community in Nigeria. African countries have made remarkable strides in developing Web3 technologies in recent times. This is especially noticeable in the development of rules and implementation of crypto regulation policies. The Blockchain Association expresses great concern that the negative consequences associated with the actions of the Nigerian government could negatively affect the development of the cryptocurrency sector throughout the African continent,” BAK said in a statement.

The association noted to Nigerian government officials that no formal charges have been brought against the detained employees over the past three weeks, and called for their speedy release and safe return to their countries.

Earlier, sources from the Wall Street Journal (WSJ) said that a Nigerian court left top managers of the largest cryptocurrency exchange Binance, Tigran Gambaryan and Nadeem Anjarwalla, in custody until at least March 20.
