The death toll from floods in the Kenyan capital Nairobi has risen to 13, with the search for missing persons continuing, a police officer told AFP. President William Ruto has convened a meeting to coordinate the management by “various agencies” of flooding caused by heavy rains in recent weeks, where the El Niño phenomenon has extended the rainy season. “We found three more bodies today (Thursday) and investigations are continuing because we have people who are missing,” said Fred Abuga, police commander in Starehe sub-county, in central Nairobi. The victims were located in the Mathare River, which flows through the shanty town of the same name, one of the areas most affected by yesterday's floods.
