Kevin Costner talks about difficulty getting financing for “Horizon”

Kevin Costner 69, participated in a press conference this Monday (20) about his new film “Horizon: An American Saga” at the 77th Cannes Film Festival. He directs and acts in the plot, in addition to being responsible for the script and production, and spoke about the difficulty of raising money for the project, which was partially self-financed.

“I don’t know why it was so difficult [encontrar financiamento]. I don't know why it was so difficult to make people believe in the film I wanted to make. (…) I hit every boat in Cannes to help me. 'Ah, come on, let's make a movie. Grab your checkbook, let’s talk about money,” she said.

The filmmaker's idea is to make a saga of four films. The first premiered in Cannes and the second part will be released in August. Costner is trying to gather resources for the third feature, he said.

The production is a Western set during the Civil War in the United States. During the press conference, the star of “Yellowstone” was asked about her opinion on racism in the country and the representation of native peoples in “Horizon”.

“I am conscious of race. I live in a place called Compton, California. I financed a film called 'Black or White' (2014). It was my version of the level of racism that exists in our country,” she said.

“The film is a journey. It is not a plot film and Native Americans are represented. I don't feel the need to try to balance the story. I just try to make it as real as possible,” she stated.

“Horizon: An American Saga” premieres in June in the United States. In addition to Costner, Sienna Miller , Abbey Lee Kershaw , Jamie Campell , Ella Hunt It is Sam Worthington are in the cast.
