Kevin O’Leary: “Locking Tornado Cash was necessary for the development of the industry”

Shark Tank lead and venture capitalist Kevin O’Leary believes that the cryptocurrency industry needs more regulation and fewer “cryptocowboys” like Alexey Pertsev, creator of the Tornado Cash mixer.

During a discussion on Crypto Banter, Kevin O’Leary stressed that apps like Tornado Cash have no place in the industry. In his opinion, the cryptocurrency industry needs a “rule-based environment.” It is this environment that will attract real institutional capital to the industry and get rid of protocols like Tornado Cash, which allow anonymous transactions and potentially encourage the criminal use of digital assets.

“After all, it is quite normal that he was arrested. After all, he played with the regulators. If you need to sacrifice Pertsev, then everything is fine, because we want stability? Now the industry is getting closer to the arrival of institutionals, so we need to get rid of this cowboy shit. I want to see a regulated environment where billions of dollars work. I don’t want to be a cowboy, I want to work in a regulated world,” Shark Tank host said.

Recall that last week the Dutch police detained the alleged developer of the Tornado Cash mixer. He is accused of being involved in concealing criminal financial flows and facilitating money laundering.
