The Kickstarter crowdfunding platform is raising funds to create a miniature PocketStar console the size of a keychain: the project has already received three times as much as it originally requested ($ 10,030).
This mini-console stands out primarily for its size: 50×30×10 mm, a working prototype fits easily into a miniature jeans pocket. An ESP32-C3 processor (160 MHz) is installed inside – its performance is quite enough for retro games, including those with 3D graphics. Of course, special attention is paid to games: they can be loaded onto a memory card or downloaded from the company store (it is not ready yet). Moreover, PocketStar will support multiplayer: for this it is equipped with Bluetooth 5.0 LE and Wi-Fi (2.4 GHz).
There are only two controls (D-Pad and a couple of buttons), both located under a 0.95-inch OLED display with a resolution of 96×64 pixels. Separately, it is worth noting the presence of a speaker, a vibration motor and an accelerometer. Power is supplied from the battery. It charges via USB-C: 2-3 hours of charging is enough for more than 5 hours of gaming.
The PocketStar is priced at €49 and deliveries are due to start in April 2023.
