Khaby Lame: 10 things to know about the TikTok phenomenon of the moment

It is difficult to keep up with Khaby Lame: when we started writing this article he had 27 million followers, when we finished – a few hours later – he began to touch the 30 million. A phenomenon: now he is the Italian king of TikTok, the most popular ever in our country, with a huge gap compared to other stars like Gianluca Vacchi (17 million) or Luciano Spinelli (7 million), which also allowed him to enter the coveted world top 100 of the platform still happened by Charlie D’Amelio.

And to think that – as you see in the gallery above in which we tell you 10 curiosities about him – Khaby Lame started softly, a bit like the millions of creators who now flock to the platform that conquered Generation Z: as of March 2020, in full lockwdown, he posted a video in which he disinfects his hands with gel. Nothing special, a few thousand likes, then the climb.

21 years old, born in Senegal and shortly after arrived in Italy: now Khaby lives in Chivasso (Turin), in a social housing complex to which – as he said in an interview with Courier service of the Evening – «I owe everything. They taught me education and allowed me to cultivate many bonds ». It is in his house that he shoots his videos. Technically they are called «video-reaction», that is “video-reaction”: a more amusing formula than the usual duets from which the challenges start, they are content where you respond to other content. In the case of Khabi, absurd videos they propose complex and unthinkable solutions to simple problems, which he then solves in the most normal and obvious way. What’s so funny? Seeing is believing with this compilation: a smile always tears it:

But Khabi didn’t just win for this: he also won because he was silent. In the videos he does not speak, but precisely for this reason he speaks to everyone because his language of gestures is universal. So the whole world understood it immediately and, view after view, its contents entered the TikTok slot machine in which thealgorithm did the rest showing them to the four corners of the planet,

There is also a beautiful story behind Khaby Lame: his Khabi’s dream of helping friends and family thanks to the viral ideas with which he is now also starting to make money (thanks to the TikTok creator fund and sponsorships). All this also makes us rethink the usual (and repetitive) stereotype of the golden life of influencers. In the gallery above this and other curiosities about the phenomenon of the moment
