Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky posted a video on social media of celebrations in the city of Kherson, now liberated by Ukrainian troops. (see below) 🇧🇷
Amid flags, a crowd chants “ZSU”, the acronym for the country’s armed forces. Along with the publication, the head of state wrote: “Wow. Kherson is ours.”
On Friday morning, Russia announced that its army had completed a “strategic withdrawal” from the city.
Reuters reported that the region’s governor also published a video of soldiers from the 59th motorized brigade in the liberated village of Blahodatne, which is about 20 km outside Kherson, waving Ukrainian flags.
Zelensky said in an evening speech that the country’s forces liberated 41 settlements as they advanced through the south, indicating one of the most rapid and dramatic changes in control in nearly nine months of war. Reuters was unable to verify the information released by the president.
