Speaking to DW-TV, former oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky said that Russia’s advance on Ukraine had stopped and that Putin was now considering how to explain it to the Russians.
Mikhail Khodorkovsky, a former oligarch and one of the fiercest opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin, had just a few days ago urged the West to impose a no-fly zone over Ukraine. He even called unreasonable fears that NATO might get involved in a war with Russia if the West took this crucial step in the course of the war.
Now the former head of the Russian energy giant Yukos, who after many years in prison in Russia for tax evasion lives abroad, returns to the issue of Ukraine in an interview with DW television. Mikhail Khodorkovsky notes that Russian advance in Ukraine has stopped and that now President Vladimir Putin is thinking of “selling” it to the Russian people.
“Ukraine can not resist without weapons from the West”
“Putin would have preferred to have announced to the Russians a decisive victory in his view, such as the occupation of Kherson and Mykolaif. The only thing left for the Russian president to do now is to focus on those areas where the resistance is either minimal or has stopped. and Luhansk, where any resistance by part of Ukrainian society against the Russian president has been stifled. ”
We remind you that recently the former oligarch Mikhail Khodorkovsky had stated that an overthrow of President Putin is possible only with the contribution of the Russian army. He had even spoken of “erosion in central structures of the state apparatus”, but considered that “in the short term this will not lead to regime change” in Russia. At the same time, he stressed the decisive contribution of the weapons that the West is sending to Ukraine: “Kyiv is not able to resist without weapons from the West”, stressed Mikhail Khodorkovsky to conclude: “Putin and Kyiv know this, I hope it understand those who make decisions in Western countries. ”
