Kia EV6 and the new electric path of Kia

Kia EV6, the new electric native crossover of the Seoul company, will arrive only at the end of the year, but it is making headlines. The reasons for the interest can be found in the design that rewrites the family feeling by Kia, ultra-fast charging times, supercar engines and augmented reality navigator.

The new family feeling di Kia EV6

EV6 is Kia’s first electric model born on the specific E-GMP platform. It is the manifesto of an innovative design inspired by the new philosophy Opposites United. At the heart of this new design philosophy emerges the new stylistic identity which is expressed through contrasting combinations of sharp stylistic elements and sculptural forms.

The front of the new Kia EV6 features theevolution of tiger face by Kia, reinterpreted specifically for the new electrified era. Characteristic elements of digital tiger face are the daytime running lights with a modern and elegant look with a state-of-the-art sequential dynamic lighting system. In the lower part there is a large air intake that visually widens the front of the car, accentuating its high-tech image.

The side profile highlights the crossover look. A well-defined line runs along the underside of the doors to point upwards on the profile of the rear wheel arches to emphasize momentum when viewed from the side. Designed with a focus on aerodynamic efficiency, the rear features a sloping C-pillar with a glossy black insert, which helps to expand the visual impact of the rear window.

Above the latter, instead, a generous spoiler has been positioned with two specific channels to convey the air towards a second lower spoiler, at the base of which there is the luminous signature of the refined rear light assembly.

For EV6, the choice of engines includes two configurations with high voltage battery packs. The first configuration ad high autonomy is from 77.4 kilowatt hours. The second, on the other hand, provides for astandard autonomy of 58.0 kilowatt hours. EV6 is Kia’s first electric vehicle to be available in both 2WD two-wheel drive and AWD all-wheel drive.

The two-wheel drive EV6 with a 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery has a autonomy greater than 510 kilometers in the combined cycle WLTP. The four-wheel drive EV6, on the other hand, has a maximum torque of 605 Newton per meter and is able to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 5.2 seconds. The 77.4 kilowatt-hour battery pack is paired with a 168 kilowatt electric motor about 229 horsepower which transmits power to the rear wheels alone. While for the AWD models, this is flanked by a second engine positioned on the front axle which leads to a total maximum power of 239 kilowatts about 325 horsepower.

The 58-kilowatt-hour battery pack instead serves a 125 kilowatt electric motor or 170 horsepower for rear-wheel drive versions only. While for the AWD models, a more powerful electric motor is provided on the front axle that brings the final power to a maximum of 173 kilowatt that is 235 horses. Acceleration from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour is 6.2 seconds, with a peak torque of 605 Newton per meter.

EV6 under construction GT-line will be available with both 58 and 77.4 kilowatt-hour batteries. As for the GT performance version, the only solution will be the battery pack long range. Similar to a custom-built model, it has a power of 430 kilowatts corresponding to 585 horsepower which allow it to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometers per hour in just 3.5 seconds. Its top speed is 260 kilometers per hour. The estimated range drops to 400 kilometers.

The strengths of Kia’s electric crossover

EV6 can be recharged with systems to 800 and 400 volts, without the need for additional components or adapters. It is capable of high-speed charging from 10 to 80 percent of the battery’s capacity in just 18 minutes. In less than four and a half minutes he recovers enough energy to travel 100 kilometers.

The EV6 charging system also has the reverse function. This new tool called Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) allows energy to be transferred from the EV6 battery to another vehicle or electronic device. The V2L function can provide up to 3.6 kilowatts of power and is capable, for example, of running a 55-inch TV and air conditioner simultaneously for more than 24 hours.

The high-tech infotainment system includes a 12-inch dual screen system. The curved displays applied to EV6 have thin film panels that use a new structure and advanced technology to reduce the impact of light. The cluster and infotainment system are connected as if they were wrapped around a body made of reinforced glass.

EV6 also features a display system head-up display with augmented reality (AR), which projects driving information at the base of the windshield, at eye level for the driver. The head-up display shows information from the system driving assistance, thus providing speed details and navigation directions.
