The Arducam development team has launched their first Kickstarter project – a 16MP autofocus camera module for Raspberry Pi computers. It fits all Raspberry Pi models with MIPI interface and offers twice the resolution of the currently available V2 camera module and 40% higher resolution than the HQ camera module.
The new module is the same size as the V1 and V2 cameras for the Raspberry Pi, but unlike them, it has an auto focus feature. The camera uses a Sony IMX519 1 / 2.53 ” optical format sensor, while the V2 uses the IMX219 and the HQ uses the IMX477. The sensor allows you to receive Full HD video at a frame rate of 30 fps and 720p video at a frame rate of 60 fps. Sadly, 4K video is not available, but the bottleneck in this case is the Raspberry Pi. The minimum focusing distance is 10 cm and the lens field of view is 80 °.
All software for the module is open source, including the source code that implements machine learning algorithms, so that users can improve and adapt it for their projects.
To get the module, you need to deposit about $ 16. Estimated retail price for those who will not participate in the campaign will be $ 25. Deliveries are expected to begin in January. The authors set the goal of the project to collect $ 2,000. At the time of writing the news, the collected amount was close to $ 41,000, and there are 21 days left until the end of the campaign.
