Kiev mayor announces extension of curfew

the mayor of KievVitaliy Klitschko, announced that the curfew in the capital of Ukraine will be expanded on the nights of this Saturday (26) and Sunday (27). Kiev, the country’s seat of government, is being target of Russian attacks.

The curfew was implemented on Thursday (24), between 10pm and 7am. Now, it will be expanded to the period between 17h and 8h – 12h to 3h, Brasília time.

“Heads up! For the most effective defense of the capital and the safety of its inhabitants from today, February 26, 2022, the curfew will be valid from 17:00 to 08:00. This curfew time is introduced until the morning of February 28th,” Klitschko wrote.

“All citizens who are on the streets during the curfew will be considered members of enemy sabotage and reconnaissance groups. Please sympathize with the situation and don’t take to the streets,” warned the mayor.

Earlier, Klitschko claimed that a 20-story residential building was hit by a missile. Emergency teams rushed to the scene. There is no casualty information.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said on Saturday that the capital Kiev was under Ukrainian control. “We have resisted and are successfully repelling enemy attacks. The fight continues,” he said in a message on social media.

According to the Ukrainian government, a tank and aircraft of the Russian army were destroyed in this morning’s combat. The General Staff of the Armed Forces reported that there were also attacks in other cities.
