THE Ukraine announced today that it had “destroyed” a missile belonging to its Russian fleet last night Black Sea and was patrolling off Crimea, the Ukrainian peninsula annexed by Moscow and regularly attacked by Kyiv.
Russia has not made an official comment and has not reported damage to any of its ships, but a channel on the Telegram platform, which is close to the Russian military, spoke of “damage” to a ship.
The Ukrainian military intelligence service GUR announced how he managed to “sink” the rocket ship “Ivanovets” in the zone of Lake Donuzlavon the west coast of Crimea.
The ship was “carrying out a sea patrol” near the lake, Andrii Yusov, a spokesman for the Ukrainian military intelligence service, told AFP.
The rocket ship, which was launched in 1989 and is 56 meters longis primarily equipped with four Moskit hypersonic anti-ship missile systems, according to the Russian Black Sea Fleet website.
“Due to a number of direct hits to the hull, the Russian ship suffered damages that make any movement impossible – the Ivanovets (…) sank,” GUR reported via Telegram.
Along with the message, the agency posted a video showing a ship exploding in a fireball. The authenticity of these images and where they were taken cannot however to be confirmed by an independent source, points out the AFP.
The Rybar channel of the Telegram platform, which is close to the Russian military, reported a nighttime Ukrainian attack on Lake Donuzlav. One of the Russian ships “suffered damage,” Rybar reported this morning, adding that the extent of the damage has not yet been assessed.
Yesterday, Wednesday evening, Russia announced that it had destroyed twenty missiles fired by Ukraine over the Black Sea and Crimea.
“Shards” fell on the ground of a “military unit” in Lyubimivkanear Sevastopol, the Ministry of Defense had announced.
Crimea, which was annexed in 2014 by Russia, is a target for Ukraine as it is very important for Russian military logistics.
