Kiev urges NATO to secure Black Sea, integrate Ukrainian defenses

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine, Dmytro Kuleba, said this Thursday (13) that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) should play a greater role in the security of the Sea Black and integrate the defenses Ukrainian air and anti-missile weapons.

O Sea Black and the Ukrainian coast have been a major theater of war since the Russian invasion last year.

“O Sea Black it is fundamental to make the whole of Europe peaceful and forward-looking”, said Kuleba, during the security videoconference of the Sea Negro, in Bucharest, capital of Romania.

Kiev’s comments were rejected by Moscow, where Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said “the Sea Black can never be a sea from the nato“.

“This is a sea shared, needs to be a sea of cooperation, interaction and security for all its littoral states. And this security is indivisible,” he added.

Both Russia and Ukraine depend on Black Sea for trade, including supplying the grain market as two of the world’s largest food exporters.
