Kiev will buy the Turkish KAAN fighter, says the ambassador of Ukraine

Her ambassador Ukrainian in Ankara, Vasil Bodnar said his country is not only working to build its engine under design Turkish fighter jet KAAN, but also plans to buy it when production begins. At the same time, he confirmed that a Turkish Bayraktar drone manufacturing plant will operate in Ukraine.

In an interview with the Turkish television station CNN Turk, the Ukrainian diplomat pointed out that there is a Ukrainian consortium participating in the tender for the manufacture of the engine of the 5th generation fighter KAAN and that his country has the experience and ability to produce the required components rapidly.

Asked whether Ukraine will buy the fighter when it enters production, Vasyl Bodnar said “we will not only buy it, we will use it, and we know where we will use it.”

Referring to the Turkish Bayraktar drones, he pointed out that they have acquired significant reputation in his country and clarified that the construction works of the manufacturer's factory continue in Ukraine of Baykar company. A few days ago, the company's managing director, Haluk Bayraktar, had stated that the factory near Kiev will be put into operation in a year and will annually produce 120 Bayraktar unmanned aerial vehicles, in versions TB2 and TB3, employing about 500 workers.

“Cooperation with Turkey is one of the strategic developments that offers broader defense capabilities to both Ukraine and Turkey and strengthens our regional cooperation in the Black Sea,” the Ukrainian ambassador stressed.
