Killer dies during clash with Mato Grosso police

Ezequias Souza Ribeiro, 27 years old, one of the perpetrators of the massacre in the municipality of Sinop, in Mato Grosso, died this Wednesday (22nd), after clashing with the local police.

The confrontation took place in a wooded area, far from the city center. Ezequias was sent to Sinop Regional Hospital, but he could not resist his injuries.

The other person responsible for the deaths, Edgar Ricardo de Oliveira, 30, is still being sought.

The crime took place on Tuesday (21), in a bar in the residential neighborhood of Lisbon. The two men were playing pool with the victims and reportedly lost a significant amount of money gambling.

After the victims began to mock the pair, they drove away in a white pickup truck and returned armed with a .380 pistol and a 12-gauge shotgun.

According to information from the Civil Police, the man with the pistol placed the victims against a wall and the two began shooting at them.

When the Civil Police arrived at the scene after being triggered, six of the victims were already dead. One of them was still alive, was rescued by the Fire Department and sent to the regional hospital, but did not resist.

The seven victims are: Larissa Frazão de Almeida 12 years old; Maciel Bruno de Andrade Costa 35 years old; Joshua Ramos Tenorio 48 years old; Getulio Rodrigues Frazão Junior aged 36; Adriano Balbinote aged 46; Orisberto Pereira Sousa , 38 years old; It is Elizeu Santos da Silva 47, who died in hospital.

The Homicide Division of the Civil Police is responsible for investigating the case.

The police seized, also this Wednesday, the truck, weapons and ammunition used in the case.

“When the vehicle was searched, the team found a 12-gauge shotgun inside the engine compartment, under the hood. A small black bag was also found, containing 14 .40 caliber ammunition and 14 12 gauge ammunition,” says the statement from the state Military Police, which also found firearm registration certificates among the seized items.

“The state security forces work together to locate the suspects in the crime, who have already been identified by the Civil Police. A task force was created to search for the perpetrators of the crime”, says the PM in the note.

A flag of the government and campaign of former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL), the easing of the rules for possessing and carrying firearms has been criticized and revised by the current government of President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT), which signed a decree which restricts access to weapons and establishes the re-registration of permitted and restricted weapons until the end of March.

This Wednesday, the Minister of Justice, Flávio Dino, returned to the subject when commenting on the massacre in Mato Grosso.

“Another 7 brutal homicides. Yet another tragic result of the irresponsible arms policy that led to the proliferation of ‘shooting clubs’, supposedly intended for ‘good people’ (as the extreme right claims)”, published the minister on his Twitter profile.
