Filmmaker Martin Scorsese's newest film, “Killers of the Flower Moon”, arrives on Apple TV+ on January 12th. The announcement was made by the streaming service this Thursday (4).
The 3h30 long film premiered in Brazilian cinemas on October 12, 2023 and was available for purchase on apps such as Amazon's Prime Video in December.
“Killers of the Flower Moon” is based on the book of the same name by David Grann and tells how the Osage people of the US state of Oklahoma were killed because of control of the oil rights that were making them rich.
The film also explores the marriage between a white man, played by Leonardo DiCaprio, and his wife Osage, played by Lily Gladstone. DiCaprio's character, pressured by his uncle (Robert De Niro), participates in the murder scheme — even though he loves his wife and children.
The film focused in part on “a very twisted but true love story,” DiCaprio said. “These things really happened,” he added.
Although Hollywood's depictions of North America's indigenous people are historically flawed, DiCaprio said the film aims to tell the truth.
“Scorsese sought to ensure that the Osage guided the story on and off camera,” he said.
