Kilometers by Federico Baroni: the song dedicated to his friend Michele Merlo

If life had granted it to him, Michele Merlo would have turned 29 today, Tuesday 1 March 2022. If life had been more forgiving, Michele would have continued to live on music by dragging his fans into his songs and into his life, guided by that welcoming wave that has never dozed off. Unfortunately, the dream crumbled on June 7, 2021, when a fulminant leukemia took it away overnight, preventing the public from immediately metabolizing that sudden and unwanted loss. Today, March 1st, it is his friend Federico Baroni who pays homage to Michele’s memory through a passage, Kilometreswhich is a declaration of esteem and love for a boy who left too soon.

Michele Merlo and Federico Baroni

“Across the Kilometers I feel you here with me” sings Baroni who, in the song, compares the kilometers to the songs that give life to the journey of an artist, a journey that Federico and Michele were undertaking in parallel but always side by side, linked by friendship and a common dream: get their music to people’s hearts. A dream that for Michele has been interrupted, and that Federico carries on in his memory, trying to realize, even in his name, the projects that seem unfinished to date. The song, written by Federico Baroni with Raige and produced by Riccardo Scirè, is supported by the Romantic Rebel Association, born in memory of Michele and chaired by the family. “Kilometres it is a very intimate and personal piece. Every day we grind kilometers to reach a goal, a person, a memory or a place. There is never a real goal, a happiness to be conquered, but to pursue, yes, and it is precisely this path we take every day that represents the essence of this piece “, says Federico Baroni.

«I wanted to dedicate Kilometres to a special person who is no longer there: Michele Merlo. A friend who fought to the last to carry on these values and who with his death left an unbridgeable void in everyone’s heart. An artist, a dreamer, a true friend, who with his sincerity made me grow a lot and gave me the courage to face many situations. A romantic and tireless rebel who in the days and experiences lived together has always fought, like me and with me, for this dream. This song is my way of saying thank you for everything he has and left us and an invitation for everyone to never give up and, as Michele had written on his skin, to “always believe in it”! ». Federico Baroni, born in Rimini in 1993, is the most followed busker in Italy and a former student of Friends of Maria De Filippi.
