North Korean leader Kim Jong-un may not have a son. This is what João Micaelo, Kim’s childhood friend, claims in his last interview with Rádio Free Asia. Questioned about the subject, Micaelo comments that Jong-un never mentioned his son in his intimate conversations about family.
João studied with the dictator at the public school Liebefeld-Steinhölzli, in Switzerland, from 1998 to 2000, and has already made several revelations in previous interviews, including that the North Korean leader enrolled under the name of Pak Un.
Both sat side by side, but the young man made it clear that on the first day of school he did not know that his new friend was the successor of then North Korean leader Kim Jong-il.
Son of a couple of Portuguese immigrants, Micaelo reveals that he had deep conversations with Kim during his two trips to North Korea in 2012 and 2013. Despite talking about his daughter, with whom he has been seen publicly, and even his wife, Jon -un never mentioned a male child.
South Korean intelligence has repeatedly said that Kim, with his wife Ri Sol Ju, had three children: a son around 2010, a daughter named Ju Ae around 2013 and another daughter in 2017.
Since late last year, Kim has repeatedly appeared with Ju Ae in public, attending everything from missile launches and military parades to other political events. Such a stance has raised speculation that he could be grooming her to one day rule the country, but many say that is not likely as North Korea is a highly patriarchal society that has been ruled by three male leaders: Kim Il-sung , his son Kim Jong-il and his grandson Kim Jong-un. However, there was never a female lead.
Truth about the eldest son
In March, South Korea’s National Intelligence Service informed a meeting of the National Assembly’s Intelligence Committee that the North Korean leader’s first child is a boy.
What is commonly said is that Kim has three heirs, considering the birth of the boy in 2010, Ju Ae around 2013 and the youngest in 2017.
“While there is no specific evidence that the first child is a boy, it is certain, through information sharing with outside intelligence agencies, that it is a boy,” reports the spy agency.
On the other hand, a high-ranking official from the Ministry of Unification of South Korea met with reporters on May 22 and claims, “It is uncertain whether there is a first child [antes de Ju Ae] or not”.
